Steve, you are so unquestionably upright and good, as well as someone who knows right from wrong and rudeness from erudition, and I'm flabbergasted anyone would want to do you harm just because you say things in public that they don't like, perhaps not knowing how much you champion free speech if done according to your own sensitivities.

You're such a sweetheart of a guy, too, and I only hope you get the important message of all this -- that Dennis only hates you because he is jealous of your psychological freedoms as a free-thinker, not because of who you are as a person on the inside -- exceptionally inconsequential and pretentious.

Thanks for the clarification , William. What I meant in that segment was simply that the petition, media blitz, and twitter campaign happened, then the Montreal police got involved. I meant it more as a sequence of events, not necessarily an implication of causality. In other words:

“Things A, B, C happened. Then D happened” Apologies if that did not come across in the post.

The Montreal detective told me she would get in touch with the Waterloo Region police (who took my report, not the OPP, or the RCMP), and after the weekend, I’ll call her back and follow up.

She did seem glad that I was a Canadian who filed with Canadian police. I think American police might be making her job harder then it needs to be (but I am being speculative here).

Hi Steve - it's not exactly accurate to say that the Montreal Police opened an investigation because of the petition. The investigation was already under way by that point, following a complaint I laid at Côte-des-Neiges Police Station (some 7km from the suspect's home and very close to my office). The petition however provided a strong boost and a sense of urgency. I encourage you to call the Ontario police again and follow up on your original complain.

Wow he posted that bomb threat out of Concordia. Amazing nothing (I assume) was done. I remember the early days of the net (around the same time), it was customary for some drunk frat boy to not understand the non-anonymity of the net and he would send off a death threat to the white house. A pair of Secret Service would soon pay the fellow a visit, as a matter of routine, and verify the idiot wasn't really about to attempt to kill the president. I'm surprised (again I have to assume) no one reported him to the concordia admin, they didn't block his access, and they didn't report him to the RCMP.
